Keyano’s Career & Summer Job Fair 2009

Keyano College’s annual Career Fair is the largest in Wood Buffalo, and this year promises to be even bigger and better thanks to a larger venue: the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre.

The third annual Fair will be held on February 6 and 7. Admission is free to the public and about 50 employers and 2,000 people are expected to attend.

Jailyn Highfield, Career Services Coordinator at Keyano College, says this year 500 more people are expected because of the capacity of the Alberta Trades Field building in the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre. The event was moved to the Centre last year and was hailed a resounding success.

“Employers at this event are looking to recruit, with on-thespot interviews offered also,” Highfield said. “I encourage everyone to dress appropriately for interviews,” she added. Some of the companies at the Fair will include: Syncrude Canada, Suncor Energy, Canadian Natural, Finning, Northern Lights Health Region, JACOS, ATCO, RCMP, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, Nexen/Long Lake, North American, and CMA Alberta.

Highfield says a number of companies will be looking to fill summer positions as well, so “opportunities for internships will also be available. There is something for everyone.” This is a golden opportunity for the retail, public, non-profit and industrial sectors, given the local recruitment and retention challenges. It is a must-attend, networking opportunity. Last year’s event saw employers like SaskPower and Elk Valley Coal from outside of the province in attendance.

The Career & Summer Job Fair starts at 12 noon on Friday, February 6 and runs till 7 p.m. and Saturday, February 7 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information contact Jailyn Highfield at 780-791-4996.
