New Brunswick largest career fair will be held at Aitken Centre

New Brunswick Fall Career Fair

October 1, 2009

Aitken University Centre

10 AM – 4 PM

The largest career fair in the province will be held at the University of New Brunswick this week.

About 100 companies from New Brunswick and across Canada will attend, including Fortune 500 companies and 19 federal government departments and agencies.

The career fair is being hosted by the Student Employment Centre and open to students of all faculties.

"The demand for on-campus recruitment has grown so much over the last few years that we aren't able to accommodate the fair in the Student Union Building anymore," said Anne Soucy, manager of the centre.

"We have companies coming to us from across the country interested in hiring our students. At UNB, we feel it's important to partner with companies on this and help our students find valuable employment."

The career fair will be held in the Aitken University Centre on Thursday at 10 a.m.

It will remain open until 4 p.m. and include information booths with companies such as McElhanney Land Surveys Ltd., Certified Management Accountants of New Brunswick, Regional Health Authority B, Sun Life Financial, Brunswick News Inc., Aecon, the Fredericton Police Force, and Medavie Blue Cross.

More than 1,000 students are expected to attend.

Because of that interest, Soucy said, universities throughout Canada will be hosting career fairs this fall, and many, including UNB, will host more than one.

"There's a wide variety of large and small companies that will be participating in this fair and we'll have more participants at our career fairs in January and February," Soucy said.

"We're very excited about this one since it is the largest in the province. We provide our students with career counselling and workshops on resume and cover letters and this just allows us to take things a step further - whether it be helping them with summer employment, employment during school, or a career after their degree."
