Canada's Government Awards Contract for 8 Wing Trenton Defence In

8 WING TRENTON, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 11, 2009) - The Government
of Canada has awarded a contract to Bird Construction Company of
Etobicoke, Ont., for the construction of the Electrical and Mechanical
Engineering and Transportation Garage at 8 Wing Trenton. This contract
award brings economic benefits to the region, generating approximately
200 direct employment opportunities over the course of this work.

"As part of the Canada First Defence Strategy, this Government
continues to deliver on its commitment to providing modernized
infrastructure for the Canadian Forces," said the Honourable Peter
MacKay, Minister of National Defence and Minister for the Atlantic
Gateway. "Awarding this contract not only provides economic
opportunities for the local community, but ensures our military men and
women have the facilities they need to do their jobs."

The 452 m2 single consolidated facility will house and support all
electrical and mechanical engineering and transport activity at 8 Wing
Trenton and help amalgamate the chain of command and fleet/equipment
management functions. Construction of the new facility will start in
December 2009, with completion expected by summer 2012.

The Government of Canada conducted open, fair, and transparent
competitive processes to award the contract for $38.2 million for the
construction of the electrical and mechanical engineering and
transportation garage at 8 Wing Trenton.

In line with the Canada First Defence Strategy, there is a need to
update and replace dated defence infrastructure to meet the challenges
of the 21st century. The Government's significant investments in
defence infrastructure provide economic benefits to communities across
Canada.

The Department of National Defence holds a large number of
properties all across the country to support the Canadian Forces,
including some 21,000 buildings, 2.25 million hectares of land, 5,500
km of roads, and 3,000 km of water, storm, and sewer pipes.
