Government of Canada Awards $1,100,000 in Funding for Constructio

HAVRE-SAINT-PIERRE, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Dec. 14, 2009) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, today announced that Complexe MV Inc. has received $1,100,000 in financial support for the construction of a new hotel in Havre-Saint-Pierre. This 100-room three-star hotel will cater more closely to the accommodation needs of tourism clientele visiting the Mingan region, and in particular will draw tourists from outside Quebec.

This repayable contribution is provided from the Community Adjustment Fund. The project represents $5,260,000 in total investment; in addition, 37 permanent positions have been created, including 34 subcontracted jobs for operation of the hotel complex. The construction work also generated 11 temporary jobs locally.

"Tourism contributes significantly to the socioeconomic development of Quebec's regions and the well-being of their residents," stated the Minister of State. "So it is important to be constantly improving our tourism offering, in order to draw-as this new hotel complex will do-a growing number of visitors. Indeed, that is why Canada's Economic Action Plan has provided more than $150 million over two years for the execution of capital repairs and upgrades to national historic sites and visitor facilities in national parks. The numerous projects resulting from it, like the one we are announcing today, will help stimulate the economy and job creation, while supporting the growth of our tourism industry so that it is strong and competitive across Canada."

The hotel, which will offer a level of comfort and services meeting the requirements of travellers from here and abroad, represents a significant asset in the development of the regional tourism industry. Also, this new building will be able to accommodate business clientele travelling to the Mingan region, particularly as a result of the large-scale Romaine Hydroelectric Complex project, which is currently under way.

Furthermore, by attracting more visitors, this new hotel should foster the development of other tourism activities and, consequently, the maintenance and creation of a good number of local jobs. Clearly, this project will energize the tourism sector in the Mingan region and, in conjunction with the activities of the Havre-Saint-Pierre port of call for cruise ships, will help diversify its economic fabric.
