VCC and ISS to host Career Fair in VANCOUVER

VANCOUVER, B.C. -- VCC, in partnership with Immigrant Services Society of B.C., is hosting a multi-sector career fair so the college's students, alumni and now the public can meet employers face to face on April 15.

This event was launched seven years ago as a way for VCC students and graduates to get a head start on their job search. Over its lifetime, this fair has grown into a valued community event with more than 1,500 attendees. VCC's partnership with ISS helps immigrant students present themselves professionally in front of employers.

"More and more employers want candidates to apply online," says Nancy Nesbitt, VCC's associate director of alumni relations and the fair's organizer. "But last year, when almost 1,600 people came bursting through our doors, we received resounding evidence that students, alumni and our local community want to connect with employers face to face."

"VCC and ISS's career fair offers job seekers a chance to meet company representatives who are actively seeking candidates in person, in one place, and in a short period of time, echoes Alice Wong, the society's manager. This is a great opportunity for students and general job seekers to learn more about who's hiring. This saves them from scouring the want ads, writing hundreds of cover letters, mailing out resum├ęs and waiting.

Employers who will be on hand represent several diverse industry sectors including health, finance, hospitality, retail, transportation, and business.

VCC Career Fair will be held on April 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the VCC Broadway campus, 1155 East Broadway, north building on the corner of Seventh Avenue and Glen Drive. The event is open to the public and admission is free.

Career Fair is VCC's on-campus recruiting and networking event linking employers with students and graduates. Immigrant Services Society of B.C. is the largest multicultural immigrant-serving agency in Western Canada.
